Outreach
UCLA
Outside of research, I am passionate about encouraging all people—regardless of background, identity, or ability—to engage with science. I believe that astronomy has a unique capacity to unite people across geographic and social barriers, reminding us of the vastness of our shared cosmos and the ability of people to work together to understand it. At UCLA, I am an Outreach Coordinator for Astronomy Live!, a graduate run program that visits local schools and events within the community to foster interest in science. I also volunteer at Exploring Your Universe, a science festival at UCLA that reaches thousands of people each year, and I give shows at the UCLA planetarium (pictured) for the general public.
Michigan
I previously served as the President of the Michigan Society of Physics Students (SPS). With SPS, I coordinated many outreach events, including the annual Physics Palooza at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and Physics Demo Days at the Michigan Science Center and local elementary schools. These events aim to encourage young people to become interested in science through creative and exciting physics demonstrations. Additionally at Michigan, I helped lead a series of workshops with information on majoring in physics, joining research groups, building a CV, and introductory programming. I also served as a volunteer physics and astronomy teaching assistant at Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, a public high school in Detroit. Here I fostered virtual engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic and encouraged high schoolers to pursue careers in science.
